The downswing

If there is such a thing as a secret move in the golf swing then it’s surely in the way you start your downswing. It materializes when your weight shifts to your left foot at the start of the down swing -while bringing your right elbow back down to your body.

This should be one move not two…

There’s more going on here than anywhere else during a swing and the top players have found golf’s secret in this area. Practice this move again and again. You don’t need a golf club to do it. Practice until you get the feeling and rhythm of it.

The secret takes different forms for different players and I remember well the day I saw it in a swing from Greg Norman. I was standing with my father not 3 or 4 paces away watching him contemplate a tough shot with a five iron which required distance and height. An instant after he struck the ball I realized, right then and there, that I had seen the magic secret movement.

To this day some 20 + years later -I still shut my eyes when practicing and visualize his swing, while hearing the sound of that ball being struck so wonderfully pure, in the hope of emulating that rare movement.

Out of Bounds: A rather harsh look on life!—“You fall out of your mother’s womb, you crawl across open country under fire, and drop into your grave.”
