12 Feb Perfection where green meets blue
I’ve received many enquiries about Cape Wickham and several messages from some lucky golfers who have experienced playing the course, and all underlined my comments last week about this new wonder down under.
“Breathtaking”, “sublime”, “unbelievable” and “gorgeous” were just some of the lovely words mentioned. What is it about golf courses that sit directly alongside the ocean?
Where green meets blue will always be the true test of golf, whereby a second shot can change from a nine iron to a four in a split second.
A slight breeze felt whilst standing on the first tee can be a strong wind by the time you come to the third and therefore a constant challenge.
A course by-the-sea is rarely played the same way twice, or allows you the luxury of being able to strategise on a day-to-day basis.
Now add to this recipe the unmatched beauty and spell binding vistas you’ll experience while playing these wonderful creations, and it becomes clear why we should all experience this very best of golf.
Think of Pebble Beach and the fabulous views from nearly every tee. Cape Wickham has gone one better, and provided a spectacular visual for every hole. No wonder it has gone directly to third place in the hit parade!
Out of Bounds: Overheard at the 19th hole — An Aussie golfer was saying to his Irish golfing partner that he had forgotten how to throw a boomerang.
After the appropriate pause, and the look of puzzlement on his mate’s face, he said: “Then it came back to me!”
