Barracking should not be tolerated

I come from a generation of quietness on a golf course and just hate the shouts of “In the hole” that comes from a complete idiot beside the tee on a par-four hole, or such gems as “You da man!”. However, such shouts as “Get in the water!” during matches such as the Presidents Cup or Ryder Cup should not be tolerated and those who say these comments should be thrown into the water.

I can hear you saying that it’s just one fruitcake, but the international players in the Presidents Cup and the European stars who have travelled to North America to play the Ryder Cup will tell you that the kind of barracking that happens is something that does not belong in golf. It’s more like a football game and if it helps their team, then that’s fine as well.

These oxygen thieves wish only to attract attention to themselves, so that their lives might mean something for a few seconds. But by and large, golf crowds are respectful and keep their traps shut when they are supposed to and support their team and the individuals within it when that’s appropriate too. Diving to the bottom of the barrel to match something is not classy at all.

Out of Bounds: Arguing with a fool proves there are two!
