A perfect swing

I was asked recently about the perfect finish for a golf swing — well in a perfect world here are the points that we should all look out for.

Although the head must be allowed to turn freely to look after the ball, it should still retain the central position it adopted at the set-up. The pelvis should now be facing directly toward the target. With the body weight by now completely off the right side, the only contact with the ground from the right side perspective should be the very tip of your right shoe. From behind, all of its sole should be visible.

At the completion of the follow-through your hands and arms should be high in the swing — long into the ball’s flight. Any collapse here will have a very poor long-term effect on the swing. The right leg must be released freely into the follow-through to allow the body to turn after the shot has been played, and help give greater length to the flight of the ball.

Lastly, the entire weight of the body should be on the outside edge of the sole of the left shoe. But the authority of the shot should still be there and on no account should there be any spinning of the foot.

Out of Bounds: Obviously Jonathan Lockward Huie who wrote the following never played a triple bogie: “May the world be kind to you and may your own thoughts be gentle upon yourself.”
